How to do a Scapula CAR (controlled articular rotation)

The basic articulations:

  • Elevation and Depression
  • Retraction and Protraction

The Scapula CAR (controlled articular rotation):

  1. Start from a neutral position
  2. Shrug the shoulder blades moving them up towards the ears for elevation
  3. Then move the shoulder blades towards each other on the back for retraction
  4. From retraction, move the them away from the ears into depression
  5. After holding depression move the shoulder blades away form each other for protraction.
  • Always express current end ranges
  • Repeat again or in the opposite direction if desired
